Rainbow Chevron Quilt

Taking inspiration from the fabulous crocheted ripple blanket which has been so popular in recent years,  I decided to translate this into quilted form.  I have married fresh crisp white cotton with an array of colourful cottons, which take their cue from designs of the 1930s,  to create this unique quilt.

This quilt measures approximately 48" x 60" and would make a fabulous throw on the sofa or in the garden, a cool picnic blanket or look pretty sitting atop the foot of a bed.  It has been made with the finest quality cottons and has a mid-weight batting so it is warm without being heavy.  Ideal for the warmer weather of Spring layered with pretty sheets and pillowcases.

It has been machine quilted outlining the main seams.  The quilt has been backed with a gorgeous vintage-style rosebud print cotton by Cath Kidston which is lovely and soft.  There is a HenHouse name patch crafted from a vintage embroidered linen attached to the back and the colourful pink chevron binding has been hand sewn to the reverse for a truly professional finish.

Your quilt is easy to care for:  wash in the machine at 30 degrees and line dry.  Use a cool iron if you prefer a crisp finish; personally, I love my quilts a bit rumpled!

This quilt is priced at :

Sweet Sherbet Squares Quilt

May I present this decidedly pretty quilt to you.

I am so very proud of this one!  I have taken my favourite 1930's inspired ditsy floral cottons and patchworked them in a traditional style, the result being this beauty of a quilt in a classic "sixteen patch" design.

The quilt top is a myriad of pretty 2" cotton squares, 1344 squares to be exact!  This quilt has been machine quilted in a cross-hatched style, the top and backing being crafted from best quality cottons, and cosy cotton blend batting is sandwiched inside for maximum warmth and snuggliness whilst being lovely and light.  The quilt is finished with pink gingham binding which has been hand sewn to the reverse for a professional finish.  A HenHouse label has been attached in the corner on the back.

The quilt measures approximately 49" x 58", perfect to top a bed, snuggle with on the sofa or use as a picnic rug.  It would equally make a stunning wall hanging.

This quilt is easy to care for and can be machine washed at 30 degrees, line dried and a cool iron may be used if you like a crisp finish (I like them loved and wrinkly, myself!)

This quilt has taken many hours of stitching with the utmost care and attention, I know it shall delight its new owner and be a treasured family heirloom for years to come.

This special quilt is priced at £220.  SOLD, MANY THANKS

Gold Rush Quilt

I have used some lovely, bright and colourful prints to craft this rather delightful quilt.

The bold cottons are mainly from fabric ranges designed by the renowned Sandy Klop of "American Jane" fame, some feature punctuation marks and the alphabet, others have vintage style florals and spots,  and I have combined these with pure white cotton for a fresh, clean feel.  The blocks combine four different fabrics in an "hourglass" formation and are set on point, so much to delight the eyes especially of a lucky little one.

The quilt has top quality cotton blend batting and is backed with a lovely cotton cowboy print.  The quilt has been machine quilted outlining the main seams.   Finally, I have used  a co-ordinating check binding which has been hand sewn securely to the reverse for a truly professional finish.

I have for now called this the "Gold Rush" Quilt because it does remind me a little of the Wild West, yee haw!  I have left the name patch unfinished so that if desired, I can personalise it as the purchaser wishes, maybe with the name of the intended recipient.

This quilt measures approximately 32" x 48".  It would be ideal for a cot/crib, also as a play mat on the floor or as a wall hanging and of course, ideal for cuddling on the sofa or in the pram.  It is nice and light but warm and easy for a little one to manage.

It will wash up a treat at 30 degrees in the machine and I recommend line drying.  The quilt can be ironed on a low heat but I personally love that slightly crinkly look a quilt has once it has been laundered and loved.

A quilt to be snuggled and cosied up with for years to come, entwined with special family memories.

The quilt is priced at £125.

A Garden of Flowers Quilt

Spring has sprung and it's time to throw off those layers and brighten up your home with fresh, pretty colours.

This lovely patchwork quilt features an array of gorgeous 1930's reproduction ditsy print cottons and Cath Kidston florals interspersed with patches fussy cut from vintage embroidered cloths. So pretty!

The quilt measures a generous 48" x 68" so will sit atop a bed (the photo shows it on an oversized kingsize bed) or act as a beautiful throw in the living room or even garden now the better weather seems to be here. The quilt has quality 100% cotton batting inside and a cosy cotton flanelette (white) backing. I have bound the quilt with vintage candy striped cotton which I have hand sewn to the reverse for a professional finish. There is a little vintage embroidered linen name patch. The quilt has been machine quilted 1/4" either side of the main seam lines.

Your quilt is easy to care for and may be machine washed at 30 degrees then line dried. The cotton batting may shrink a little on washing (only up to 3%) but this will just give your quilt that lovely slightly crinkly look vintage quilt collectors so covet. A cool iron is possible if you like to restore a crisp finish. Most of all, this is a quilt that wants to be used and loved and become a family heirloom wrapped up in happy, snuggly memories.

Sold, many thanks This lovely quilt is priced at £180 including Special Delivery (fully insured) postage in the UK. Regular airmail overseas is available for an additional £5 (insurance to the full value would be extra).

A truly unique quilt for a special home.

Pinny Peg Bags

Banish those wash day blues with a pretty and practical little dress-shaped bag to hold all your pegs while you're putting the laundry on the line.

Each peg bag is lovingly made from pretty floral, polka dot or gingham fabric with a little pinny made from vintage embroidered linen or floral feedsack-style fabric. There are co-ordinating bindings, ric rac trim and folk-style braids to finish the look. The cute pinny on the front is actually a little pocket, in addition to the main peg pocket.

These peg bags are really quite sizable. They measure approximately 16.5" high and 13.5" wide to hold many wash day pegs. The handpainted wooden hanger is removable so you may wash your peg bag, but is tied on with a bow of attached gingham ribbon.

Each peg bag is priced at £22 including P&P in the UK (add £2 for overseas postage please). Please specify which of the peg bags you prefer from the four available:

- yellow stripe
- blue gingham
- pink feed sack (SOLD)
- red polka dot (SOLD)

Sweet Treasures Cot Quilt

A while back, I happened across a beautiful vintage linen textile which had hand embroidered animals on it. I'm not honestly sure whether it was meant to be a table cloth or a sheet but I thought I could use it even better!

What followed is this really beautiful and unique crib-sized patchwork quilt. The fussy-cut embroidered patches have been interspersed with traditional 9-patch blocks in the most gorgeous cottons, mainly 1930's reproduction in style, in really delicious colours. I then added a little something extra with blocks bearing appliqued heart motifs which I then hand quilted with prettily coloured silky perle threads.

The materials used in this quilt are all natural. The quilt is backed with simple white cotton flannelette which feels so deliciously cosy to snuggle into and just gets softer with use. Natural cotton batting is inside and I have traditionally bound the quilt with a cute pastel polka dot binding which I have, of course, hand sewn to the reverse for a truly professional finish. The quilt has been machine quilted with white thread and hand quilted round each heart motif in different pretty colours. I appliqued the hearts traditionally with a secure machine zig zag stitch and did not use any fusible web so that the quilt will remain lovely and soft.

The quilt measures 34" wide X 42" long so should fit cosily inside an average crib (please use your tape measure should you wish to make sure). It would also make a superb play mat on the floor or wall hanging and is big enough to move to a little one's bed, too. It's an ideal size for a little one to manage on their own because it's not too big or heavy. Perfect for snuggling up for a read on the sofa.

Easy to care for, I machine wash all my own quilts at 30 degrees and then line dry them. A little shrinkage may occur but this just gives that delightful slightly crinkly look vintage quilt collectors so covet. I love my quilts more once they've been washed! If you choose, you can restore a crisper look with a light iron.

A little name patch is hand stitched to the reverse. There is space to add a child's name or date of birth if desired. This is a really special quilt which is destined to become a family heirloom and hold such sweet memories for your child and/or for you.

This one-of-a-kind quilt is priced at £130 including postage in the UK by Special Delivery (insured) or regular airmail overseas. My sales policies can be read in my side bar.

Pretty in Pink Dolls Crib

Ah, this doll's crib has been a little labour of love and is now looking for a super new home.

I have refreshed this traditional wooden crib with several coats of pretty pink eggshell paint (having properly primed and sanded the surfaces first). There is a pretty hand-applied vintage-style rose decal to the end. I've then had a rather enjoyable time, I must admit, custom making some beautiful bedding for the crib. The crib has a new calico-covered foam mattress and lots of gorgeous bedding to keep dolly cosy and little hands busy at play.

Let's look at the bedding. The mattress is covered with a pretty cotton flannelette ditsy floral bottom sheet. Dolly can then nestle under a vintage wool blanket, satin bound at one end, and blanket stitching in perle cotton round the sides. On top of this is a vintage embroidered top sheet and I must say that this one is a beauty. It has been exquisitely embroidered with little bunny rabbit motifs and spring flowers in sugary shades. On top, dolly can enjoy a miniature patchwork quilt, made just as I make my full size quilts, with a top patchworked from many little 2" squares, cotton batting inside and a flannelette backing with pink polka dot binding, hand stitched to the reverse. Finally, there is a new little pillow with a removable vintage embroidered and crochet edged pillow case. All bedding can be removed and machine washed at 30 degrees.

The crib measures approximately 24" long, 12" wide and 17" tall. I would say this is a medium sized crib as compared with the other few I have made over, so even suitable to fit into a fairly petite nursery.

I rarely find these cribs and make them over and they are fortunately always in demand because they are all special and unique and not "off the peg". They are eco chic recycling at its best and of course, made-over by hand here in Blighty, by yours truly!

This crib is priced at £95 and may be collected from South East London or South Somerset/West Dorset by arrangement. Alternatively, the crib may be posted in mainland UK via parcels service for £15 P&P.

SOLD, THANK YOU
